# Edinburgh Community Yoga
Edinburgh Community Yoga is Scotland's most established yoga outreach organisation, operating as a not-for-profit social enterprise based in Edinburgh EH10 4HJ. Every penny generated goes directly back into developing community programmes, ensuring yoga remains accessible to those who might otherwise have no access to practice.
The organisation runs 13 active outreach and socially prescribed yoga projects across Edinburgh, reaching approximately 360 people monthly. Their inclusive approach serves a remarkably diverse demographic—students range from ages 5 to 95, representing varied genders and ethnicities. Many participants have limited or no access to traditional yoga studios.
What sets ECY apart is their commitment to honouring yoga's South Asian philosophical roots whilst delivering culturally authentic, Western-accessible practice. Rather than reducing yoga to physical poses, they emphasise the philosophical underpinnings and trauma-informed teaching methodologies. This principled approach has earned them recognition as finalists in the Social Enterprise Awards Scotland.
Beyond community classes, ECY provides comprehensive workplace wellbeing programmes addressing work-related pressure in high-stress environments. They also support yoga teacher development through CPD courses and training modules for 200 and 300-hour Yoga Teacher Trainings.
Their vision is unambiguous: everyone in Edinburgh should have access to quality, trauma-informed yoga. By combining accessible public classes with targeted outreach projects, corporate wellness solutions, and professional training, ECY demonstrates that yoga can genuinely serve entire communities rather than exclusively affluent clientele.
